Greg and Katrina Samms are the owners and operators of Lake Douglas Hunting and Fishing Inc, and your hosts at the lodge.
Greg has been hunting and fishing since the age of 10. Rabbits, moose, caribou, grouse, bear, salmon, trout, geese, snowshoe hare...if it exists in Newfoundland, Greg has hunted it. A fine shot and keen ear for wildlife have served Greg well in his hunting and guiding career. From stalking a moose to calling geese, Greg can show you the true Newfoundland hunting experience.
Katrina can be found running the business side. You might find her doing everything from paying bills, and cleaning to unloading groceries and making beds. You might even find her in the kitchen. Having learned some special recipes from past hunters and being one of the best at cooking a Newfoundland salt beef dinner, Katrina will make sure your adventure at the lodge runs smoothly.
Your Guides
Your team of guides are experienced and hard-working outdoorsmen. The guides live and hunt in the area, and know it inside out. They strive for success with every hunt and aim to provide every client with a hunt that they would be happy to recommend to their friends. Depend on it!
The guides are paired with individual hunters for moose and caribou hunting. Black bear hunts have a ratio of two hunters per guide.
Your Cook
Your cook has years of experience in cooking and baking. She will certainly tempt your taste buds! From her filling entrées (she always prepares second servings) to her delectable desserts that use Newfoundland delicacies like fresh berries, you will be surely satisfied with the home-cooking at Lake Douglas Lodge.
